Irving Middle School History

Irving Middle School was opened during the 1927-1928 school year. The school was named after the author Washington Irving.

When Irving was first opened some of the students used to go to neighboring houses and eat lunch. One former student wrote about the homemade milk shakes she used to have for lunch.

About Our Mascot

Irving's mascot

An aardvark is a nocturnal animal that lives in a burrow and eats ants and termites. The aardvark is up to 6ft long, including the fleshy, tapering tail, which it can use to throw earth backwards when it burrows. It has a tubular snout, and large, upright ears. The aardvark has a sticky tongue that it uses to capture insects. An aardvark has 20 rootless cylindrical teeth which they lose and regrow continually throughout its lifetime.
