3/31/08-4/4/08

7th and 8th Grade Regular Classes: Spelling Lesson 26 this week!

8th Grade Diff English: Greek and Lating Lesson 21 this week! Homework due Friday!

English 8 and 8D: On Monday, every student will write a poem about the Holocaust which will be due Tuesday. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday we will read the play "The Diary of Anne Frank". On Thursday we will have a guest speaker in our classroom. The spelling test will be on Friday.

English 7: We will be working on writing poetry this week. On Monday the assignment will be given and students will brainstorm ideas for their poems. On Tuesday they will write their rough drafts of two poems. On Wednesday I will go over revision techniques, and they will revise their poems. On Thursday students will work on their final draft of one poem and an author's note. All of the poetry work will be due on Friday. After the spelling test on Friday, everyone will read their poem to the class.

7th and 8th Grade Regular Classes: Spelling Lesson 25 this week!

8th Grade Diff English: Greek and Latin Lesson 20 this week! Homework due Friday!

English 8: We will finish reading Island on Bird Street this week. Students will have time on Friday to finish up their work for this novel and any missing work. Students will turn in their test and 20 story frames on Tuesday.

English 7: We will finish reading the work for "Winter 1935" and have a quiz over this part of the book. We will reading "Spring 1935" and complete discussion questions and the storyboard. We will also read "Summer 1935" and "Autum 1935" and complete discussion questions over those two parts. We will have a quiz next week over the last three sections of the book.

English 8D: We will read Ch. 6-9 in Night and complete the discussion questions and storyboard. Friday will be a workday for the Night work and any other missing work.

7th and 8th Grade Regular Classes: Spelling Lesson 24 this week!

8th Grade Diff Classes: Greek and Latin Lesson 19 this week! Homework due Friday!

English 8: We will continue working on Island on Bird Street. We will read Ch. 5-12 and students will complete a frame for each chapter. I will also pass out the open book test that is due on 3/18.

English 7: We will continue our work with Out of the Dust. We will re-read "Summer 1934" and complete quiz correction which are due Wednesday. We will also read "Autumn 1934" and complete a journal and quiz along with the storyboard. We will begin reading "Winter 1935" at the end of the week and completing the storyboard and a journal for that.

English 8D: We will begin reading Night this week. Students will read one chapter a night starting on Monday. They will also need to complete the discussion questions for each chapter with paragraph responses. They will also be working on a storyboard for this novel. We will read Ch. 1-5 this week.

7th and 8th Grade Regular Classes: Spelling Lesson 22 this week! Students will need to know the proper usage of the words for the test.

8th Grade Diff Classes: Greek and Latin Lesson 18 this week! Homework due Friday!

English 8: We finished reading Voices of the Holocaust on Monday and Tuesday and concluded with a final activity. We began reading our new novel, Island on Bird Street. Students will be creating a storyboard that illustrates each chapter of the novel. Students will be reading Ch. 1-4 this week and creating 4 frames.

English 7: This week we will be finshing our work for "Winter 1934" (Journal and Storyboard). We will also be reading "Spring 1934" and completing a journal and discussion questions, in addition to the storyboard. We will have a quiz on Wednesday over the first two parts of the book. We will then read "Summer 1934" and have a quiz over it on Friday.

English 8D: We will be finishing up our work with Voices of the Holocaust. We will finish reading the stories and complete two final activities. We will also watch a video on Friday.

8th Grade Regular Classes: Spelling Lesson 21 this week!

7th Grade Regular Classes: NO Spelling this week!

8th Grade Diff Classes: Greek and Latin Lesson 17 this week! Homework due Friday!

English 8 and 8D: On Monday periods one and two attended the "School is Cool Jam". Periods 6 and 7 visited the computer lab to look at stories and pictures of the Holocaust. Period 6 had a one page response due. On Tuesday all classes will read two storie from Voices of the Holocaust, "Letter from Dachau" and "Reunions". They will need to write down three things they learned from the stories and three questions they still have and this assignment is due on Wednesday. On Wednesday we will be watching a video about a Holocaust survivor. On Thursday we will read two stories from Voices of the Holocaust, "Return to Auschwitz" and "The Power of Light". On Friday we will take the Spelling Test and Watch another video about the Holcaust.

English 7: On Monday students will be completing an internet activity about the Dust Bowl. It is due on Wednesday. On Tuesday we will do an introductory activty for our next book, about a special dream. This is due Wedesday as well. On Wednesday I will pass out the new novel, Out of the Dust, and I will give students some introductory notes about poetry. On Thursday and Friday we will read pages 3-33 in the novel and they should have one square completed on their story frame.

8th Grade Diff Classes: Greek and Latin Lesson 16 this week! Homework due Friday!

English 8 and 8D: This week we will be reading short stories in class from our Voices of the Holocaust book. We also watch two videos about the Holocaust. There will be an extra credit opportunity on Tuesday in class that goes along with the video.

English 7: We will finish the Children of the Dust Bowl packet on Monday. It will then be turned in for a grade. The rest of the week we will finish reading the book and completing a journal activity each day. If the journal is not handed in during class, it will be homework at the end of the day.

All Regular Classes: Spelling Lesson 19 this week!

Diff Classes: Greek and Latin Lesson 15 this week! Spelling homework due Friday!

English 8 and 8D: On Monday we will begin reading the introduction of the new book we are reading, Voices of the Holocaust. On Tuesday we will be reading the stories "The Ball" and "Serving Mein Fuhrer". On Wednesday we will be reading "Broken Glass, Broken Lives" and "Address Unknown" . One Thursday we will be completing the questions after collection one in Voices of the Holocaust. These will be due on Friday. We will then watch a video about the Holocaust on Thursday. On Friday we will be visiting the computer lab. Students will view photographs of the Holocaust and write a one page response about their reactions to what they see. I will then read the story "Terrible Things".

English 7: On Monday and Tuesday we will be working on a poetry activity about the video we watched on Friday. We will share our poems in class on Tuesday. On Wednesday we will be reading Ch. 4 in CODB and completing p. 5 in their packet. On Thursday we will be reading Ch. 5 in CODB and completing p. 6 in their packet. On Friday we will have work time to complete the packet and turn in by the end of the period.

All Classes: NO SPELLING THIS WEEK!!!!

English 8 and 8D: We are preparing for the statewide writing exam on Monday and Tuesday. Students will complete this practice essay in class. Wednesday and Thrusday is the Statewide Writing Exam. Students will be working on creating a descriptive essay for two days during English class. On Friday we will finish up our What Would You Do activity and watch a video about the Holocaust.

English 7: On Monday we will finish reading Chapter 1 in CODB together. Students will have some time in class to complete page two in their packet. If they do not finish it is homework. On Tuesday we will read Chapter 2 On Wednesday we will complete page 3 in the packet and start reading Ch. 3. Whatever does not get completed in class will be homework. On Thursday we will finish reading Chapter 3 and do the fourth page in the packet. On Friday we will watch a video about the Dust Bowl. Students should have pages 1-4 completed in their packets by Monday.

1/22/07-1/25/07

All Regular Classes: Spelling Lesson 17 this week!

Diff Classes: Greek and Latin Lesson 14 this week! Homework over Lesson 14 due Friday.

English 8 and 8D: On Monday and Tuesday we will be completing a self-revision form and writing the final draft of our favorite food or drink. The final draft is due at the beginning of class on Thursday. On Thursday and Friday we will be doing a practice for the Statewide Writing Exam. They will be completing a rough draft on Thursday in class. They will complete revisions and write the final draft on Friday in class after the spelling test.

English 7 : On Monday we will review different aspects of non-ficition. All missing grammar worksheets are also due on Monday. I also passed out an extra credit grammar packet. If students were not pleased with their grade on any of the grammar worksheets, they can complete this packet and turn it in on Friday. I will not accept any extra credit that is turned in late. One Tuesday and Wednesday we will start and introduction to the book we will be reading for the next couple of weeks. The book is called Children of the Dust Bowl. On Thursday we will read Ch. 1 and students will have an assignment to complete in their Children of the Dust Bowl packet. On Friday after the spelling test we will read Ch. 2 and complete the assignment for Ch. 2 in their packet.

1/15/07-1/18/07

All Classes: This week we are on Spelling Lesson 16

English 8 and 8D: We are beginning to work on our Descriptive Essays. Wednesday we will have a quiz over the essay information given on Tuesday. Students will spend the rest of the week writing a lead, completing a graphic organizer, completing the body paragraphs and writing a conclusion. By Friday they should have a completed rough draft.

English 7: We are working on writing and grammar this week. There will be a writing prompt each day. Every student will spend time in class writing a one paragraph response to the prompt. Students will have homework each night if they do not complete the grammar worksheets in class. Tuesday the assignment will be run-ons and fragments. Wednesday will be nouns, Thursday will be verbs, and Friday will be frequently misspelled words.
