Students should submit their own original poem (one per student) on an 8-1/2 by 11 sheet of white paper. Entries must be neat and easy to read. Do not decorate or illustrate.

An official entry form must be attached. Students may obtain an official entry form from Ms. Eckery or from Lee Booksellers, 5500 South 56th Street, Lincoln. All entries are due to Lee Booksellers by 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. Entries become the property of Lee Booksellers. Contact Doris Leikam at 420-1919 for information.

UNIT STUDIES

The last day of this Unit Study rotation is next Tuesday, April 29, 2008. All work is due by that day. You received a grade report last week for Science or Social Studies. Please contact your child’s Unit Study teacher if you did not receive a report or have questions.

NOTE TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS

Spring and warmer weather have arrived, and Team 6C teachers would like to remind students and parents about appropriate school dress:

*Crop tops or tops that expose a student's midsection are not appropriate at school - belly buttons should be covered.
*Spaghetti strap tops are not appropriate for school, unless they are worn under a blouse. *Pants or shorts should not be worn in a sagging manner or below the hips.
*Clothes with profanity, suggestive words, or pictures depicting drugs, alcohol, smoking, or sex are not appropriate at school.
*Underwear such as sports bras or boxer shorts should not be showing.

Students are asked to dress comfortably but appropriately. Clothing should not disrupt the learning environment. If you are not sure if an item is appropriate, please contact Team 6C teachers or the office.

**Pop containers, open or closed, should not be brought to school and left in backpacks or lockers. The only food that should be in a student’s locker is a cold lunch that he/she has brought from home for lunch that day. Other food items should be left at home. Thank you.

EFFECTIVE STUDY HABITS

The following time management strategies can be used to improve study habits. Try one or two of these.

**Don’t get too comfortable! Easy chairs, the bed, or a sofa are dangerous places to study. If too comfortable, your body may be getting the message “time to sleep” rather than “time to study.”
**Avoid noise distractions! Don’t study in front of the TV. If you really are certain you study better with music, make sure you select a kind that doesn’t interfere with your concentration.
**Avoid the phone! The telephone is a perfect interrupter. You don’t have to be a telephone victim. Just say, “I can’t talk. I’m studying.” It almost always works!
